Research Funding Awarded for Packaging Innovations to Support American Fresh Produce Exporters

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service has awarded 22 grants for produce packaging research. To maintain market access and meet emerging foreign packaging requirements, U.S. fruit and vegetable exporters need innovative packaging solutions. These projects address this priority issue for American specialty crop exporters.

The funded packaging research and commercialization projects range from development and validation of promising new packaging materials and technologies to piloting solutions directly with U.S. fresh produce companies. USDA’s support through the Assisting Specialty Crop Exports (ASCE) Initiative to tackle non-tariff trade barriers facing American farmers helps make America safer, stronger, and more prosperous.
