| Dear Dennis,
Thanks to all of you who added input to our 2024 Producer Survey. We look forward to putting your feedback into action! With planning in mind, AGW’s team gathered in Raleigh, NC earlier this month for training, and we welcomed the opportunity to be in a room (and a pasture) together covering topics applicable to our work. With thorough sessions, insightful questions, gracious hosts and good food from many of the farms we certify in NC, we remain grateful for you because we couldn’t do what we do without you. Please read on for the latest news from our program.
Updated USDA Labeling Guideline
In late August, the USDA released an updated guideline on the substantiation of animal raising and environment-related claims found on meat and poultry labels. In this update, FSIS “strongly encourages” the use of third-party certification to substantiate these claims. While we’re glad to see acknowledgment that third-party certification is valuable, we still think it should be required for label claims and will continue advocating for labeling transparency (Big Ag’s “notes from Mom” just aren’t cutting it!).
