The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is hiring a Supervisory Veterinary Medical Officer/Biological Scientist.

In this role, you will lead the Diagnostic Services Section of the Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (FADDL). You will plan, formulate, develop, and coordinate all aspects of FADDL’s role as a diagnostic laboratory. Your work in assuring accurate and immediate subtyping of foreign animal diseases will have national importance for developing vaccines.

A successful applicant will have the following experience:

  • Writing, reviewing, and approving diagnostic case reports, test validation documents, or standard operating procedures for laboratories.
  • Advising and leading staff for laboratory activities such as diagnostic testing, reagent production, and proficiency testing.
  • Applying quality management principles, such as ISO accreditation and standardization principles to laboratory work.
