USDA Rural Development Celebrates Homeownership Month, Highlights Life-Changing Stories and Programs
June is National Homeownership Month, and all month long, USDA Rural Development (RD) will be highlighting programs that help people in rural, Tribal, and underserved communities buy, repair and build homes, and pay their rent. At RD, we know that well-built, energy efficient, affordable housing is essential to the vitality of communities in rural and Tribal America.
We also know that while homeownership is a good fit for many, plenty of rural people engage with their community by renting a home. That’s why in addition to supporting rural homeownership, RD also works to increase access to affordable multifamily rental housing opportunities in rural America.
Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing inspiring stories about families and individuals who have used RD programs to become homeowners and access rental assistance.
- Read the latest news about how the Biden-Harris Administration is improving rural livability in the United States through single family, multi-family, rental assistance, home repair and other programs.
- Catch the latest blogs and success stories. For example, we will highlight the story of a family in Colorado who lived in a school bus until a guaranteed loan made homeownership possible; stories of the agency’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity that helped families in rural Wisconsin, New Jersey and Tennessee repair and modernize their homes to make them safer, healthier places to live; and stories from Maine to New Mexico about RD’s partnerships with Tribal organizations.
- We’ll also share how RD assists people living in socially vulnerable rural communities achieve homeownership. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, RD makes sure rural and Tribal communities — especially those that have been overlooked in the past —have equitable access to resources to achieve homeownership and affordable rental housing. Keep an eye out for those stories this month.
