Forestry Mill Tour & Field Day:
Tuesday, August 24th
LOUISBURG – Area woodland owners are invited to participate in a morning tour of Toney Lumber Mill in Louisburg on Tuesday morning, August 24th. The tour will begin at 9:30 a.m. near the office entrance at 309 Bunn Road off of Bickett Blvd. (401 Hwy) in Louisburg. Look for TOUR signs and park in the vacant lot across the street from the office. In order to ensure adequate parking at the mill site, a tour van will be provided for those wishing to carpool, with the group leaving from the Ag Center/Cooperative Extension Center at 9:00 a.m. Extensive walking is expected across the lumber yard and within buildings. Participants need to be able to walk a good distance (across and back over a 20-acre yard) and climb steps into and out of buildings. The sawmill is not handicapped accessible. At the conclusion of the informative walking tour, a chicken lunch will be provided in Annex at the Agricultural Center at 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg.
If you plan to attend the tour, you should register using the following link, https://go.ncsu.edu/2021fcareaforestrymilltour, before Friday, August 20th. The tour is limited to the first 40 people who register due to meeting room restrictions.
During lunch, NCSU Extension Forestry specialists, along with a representative from USDA will speak on marketing and sales of trees, forestry cost-share government programs, and points to consider with new forests. After lunch, the tour group will travel with our local Forestry Service to visit two sites in the County, a Chestnut tree farm in addition to a pine forest management site. The Field Day should conclude around 3:30 p.m. Forestry credit hours will also be provided for professional foresters.
