Dear Rebecca,
This picture always makes me smile, and I thought you all might enjoy it too. It has been a difficult few days since we heard the news that Andrew Gunther, our Executive Director, passed away unexpectedly. People from around the world who loved Andrew have reached out to express their grief and their condolences. Because of the pandemic and the Gunther family’s wishes, there will not be a public funeral. However, we still want to offer space for those who knew Andrew to honor his memory.
A Greener World is working on gathering stories, memories, videos, and photos of Andrew to share with the Gunther family and to weave together into a memorial. Do you have anything you’d like to share? If so, please do so here.
We are also honoring Andrew by re-sharing some of his important work that made a huge impact on sustainable farming:
- “How Big Business Had The Right Idea But Went Wrong”: Watch Andrew Gunther’s powerful presentation at TedX Manhattan, a big picture view of the unintended consequences of modern agriculture.
- “It Wasn’t The Cows After All”: Andrew’s very popular Medium article explains why cows are not the ones to blame for increased global methane emissions, and cites a 2019 study showing fertilizer to be the culprit.
- “Don’t Give Up On Animal Agriculture”: Andrew explains that avoiding all animal products isn’t the path to a healthier planet, and lists 10 alternative steps for positive change.
- “Public Health Warning”: In this article that originally appeared in the Huffington Post, Andrew explains the danger of antibiotic resistant bacteria in our food.
I know this has been a tough few days but we’re in a good place to keep on keeping on, and Andrew would expect nothing less. We have been working behind the scenes for a seamless transition, and soon you’ll hear from our new acting Executive Director, Emily Moose. |
