I hope this finds you well as we near the end of another week in this challenging time. We’re beginning to hear farmers are feeling the pinch, and that for many the explosion in demand is leveling out. We’re also seeing tremendous pain in the dairy sector.
As you might know, the U.S. Small Business Administration has blocked farms from receiving much-needed federal aid through the Economic Injury and Disaster Loan (EIDL) program for the COVID-19 pandemic. While not all small farm and ranching businesses will need assistance during this time, we believe that those who do need it should have access to it. Our government should not discriminate against farms as small businesses.
We are doing everything in our power at A Greener World to partner with other organizations and leverage a grassroots petition to pressure legislators to reverse this decision, but we need your help. Here are a few concrete steps you can take to help ensure that all independent small farms have access to the support they need to make it through this difficult time:
- Email, snail mail, or call your representatives to tell them that farms are small businesses too.
- Tag the representatives in charge of this on social media so they can see what an important issue this is to farmers. You can find the names of these representatives and use our sample social media posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
- Sign and share this petition with your customers and anyone in your network who cares about small farms.
Now more than ever, independent farms and ranches are essential to our health and to our economy. Even if you are not a farmer who currently needs federal assistance, will you help stand up for those that do by telling the U.S. government that farms are small businesses, too?
Sending warmest wishes to you and yours during this difficult time,
