Media Advisory No. 0037.16 Contact: USDA Deputy Under Secretary Alexis Taylor to Visit Minnesota Farms; Deliver Message on Trade Agreement WASHINGTON, June 15, 2016 — TODAY, Deputy Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services Alexis Taylor will tour two Minnesota farming operations where she will meet with local producers and highlight the importance of trade and exports to family farming and livestock operations. Taylor’s farm tour includes a visit to Schiefelbein Farms in Kimball – a family operation that started in 1955 and consists of more than 700 registered Angus cows and 4,200 acres of pastures and crops. The Schiefelbeins export beef, breeding stock and semen. Taylor will also visit Thalmann Seeds, Inc. in Plato. Family owned and operated since 1877, the operation consists of 2,000 acres of corn and soybeans, in addition to 1,700 contracted acres for seed production, and has experience exporting to Japan, Europe and Africa. Minnesota’s annual agricultural exports are valued at more than $7 billion and help support more than 55,000 jobs in the state. Taylor will highlight how the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which is awaiting congressional approval, will benefit Minnesota’s farmers and rural communities by helping expand U.S. agricultural exports to the Asia-Pacific region.
