The Cooperative Extension Program at N.C. A&T observes a milestone
anniversary this year, with the 30^th Annual Small Farms Week (SFW)
celebration, scheduled for March 20-26, 2016.

A&T, a land-grant institution with a mission of agricultural education
and outreach, was founded in 1891 and is celebrating the 125th
anniversary of that origin this year. Theme: */Our Pride, Our Future/*
*WHAT:*Small Farms Week is an annual observance of small-scale
agriculture and the farmers that produce it. Farm tours; workshops on
land retention, vegetable production, pastured poultry and
season-extension practices and more; 2016 North Carolina Small Farmer of
the Year announced. REGISTRATION REQUIRED Deadline for SFW registration is
March 15, 2016

Monday, March 21st Vance Cty. Regional Farmers Market:  Week kickoff;
9:00 a.m. — 4:30 p.m.; Welcomes and farmer panel discussions; lunch and showcasing the 2015 Small Farmer of the Year video; in the afternoon, touring 3 successful small farms in Vance County!

Tues., March 22nd:  at Greensboro at A&T State; 11 a.m. — wonderful lunch; and 3 sessions.. over at 5:00 pm (“Making a Profit w/ Small Acreage”, “High Tunnel Microclimate”, “Pasture Poultry Production”)

Wed., March 23rd at Greensboro; 9:00 a.m. starts with educational forums (Protecting your land, Local food production), sponsored luncheon, Spreakers and then presentation of the 2016 Small Farmer of the Year.. Over at 2:00 pm. and return to Louisburg.*NON PERISHABLE FOOD DRIVE:*

Public help and input are needed to make the 30^th SFW the most notable
ever celebration of small-scale agriculture and institutional pride.
Supporters are asked to donate to two food drives: one on campus and one
designed as a statewide effort to help feed North Carolina’s
food-insecure residents.

Cooperative Extension at A&T is asking all 101 Cooperative
Extension Centers across the state to collect at least 125 nonperishable
food items during Small Farms Week. *** Proceeds remain in the
respective communities to help feed food-insecure residents.
