| Today, we celebrate Giving Tuesday! Giving Tuesday is a global movement to unleash the power of radical generosity. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has inspired hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Wherever your passions lie, Giving Tuesday gives us all a chance to come together and express our gratitude, show our generosity, and take action for the causes that are most meaningful in our hearts.
At Xerces, our passion is for the little things that run this planet. These cleaning, filtering, burrowing, and pollinating creatures are the tiny engineers that keep Earth as we know it humming along. Each invertebrate may not seem important on its own – the spider that’s up in the corner of your porch or the dragonfly that darts by on a summer day – but together their contribution to the ecosystem adds up to an astounding impact. Invertebrates weave the fabric of life, and without them, we could not exist.
Like our invertebrate friends, our small actions also lead to big impacts. Working together we can make a difference for this planet. Over 18,000 people have signed the Bring Back the Pollinators pledge and created gardens all across the U.S. for pollinators. 30,000 children have received X Kids books and are learning the foundations of conservation. 26,000 volunteers have come together to collect valuable data on imperiled species.
Here are actions you can take this Giving Tuesday:
Donate
We work year-round to protect invertebrates and their habitats. We restore native landscapes, research imperiled species, advocate against pesticide use, and much more. Large or small, a tax-deductible donation this Giving Tuesday is needed to support this essential work in 2025.
If you can’t donate yourself, cultivate generosity among your community by hosting a fundraiser for Xerces. Start your peer-to-peer fundraiser today, and earn a prize!
Become an Advocate
Share the importance of invertebrates and biodiversity with your network. Many folks don’t know how diverse invertebrates are, how much they are struggling, and why we need to protect them. The more people standing with us, the bigger impact we will have.
Avoid Pesticides
Pesticides are one of the major reasons invertebrates are struggling. Make a plan today outlining how you will avoid using insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides in your garden to reduce threats to vulnerable insects and the animals that depend on them for food.
Restore Habitat
Invertebrates depend on many different types of habitat across landscapes. As small creatures, a change in just one yard or park could make them a home: a container garden on your balcony, a patch of bare ground in your yard, or if you have big ambitions – mobilize your community to plant a shared garden in a beloved space.
No matter how you choose to participate today, THANK YOU for your efforts! |
