| Dear Dennis,
Our thoughts continue to be with those impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Helene. The loss and damage are staggering, and with the challenges in communications infrastructure we still do not know the full extent. We have been reaching out to farmers in the region and assessing the needs along with our nonprofit partners. Many of us know people who have been impacted, and also people who are stepping up to help—whether it’s the farmers hauling up emergency supplies or the processors coordinating meat donations, we have been inspired by the AGW family. If you are a farmer in need of help or someone else looking to pitch in, the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association has compiled a running list of relief resources, RAFI has also shared some advice from their own farmer advocates and North Carolina State Extension has put together a page on “Ways You Can Help in Hurricane Helene Recovery.”
If you’ve been impacted by Helene (or know someone who has been, farmer or not), please be aware and share this information on info if you experience damage or need assistance. We will also continue to share resources available to everyone – this is an enormous challenge that will take continued, collective support to recover from.
Hurricane Helene Livestock Assistance
Many herds and homes in Western North Carolina have been hit hard by Hurricane Helene. If you are able to assist livestock producers through housing animals or providing feed/supplies, please complete this form. The answers on the form will be shared with NC Cooperative Extension offices and North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services. Thank you for your willingness to help and, if needed, you will be contacted by someone from NCSU or NCDA.
