USDA Secretary Vilsack and Interagency Partners Commemorate 30th Anniversary of Violence Against Women Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On September 12, U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, along with the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Treasury, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, joined the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to sign an interagency statement commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act. The act aims to ensure that these five agencies are committed to preventing survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking from losing their housing or housing assistance, experiencing housing instability, or becoming at risk of homelessness due to the violence they have experienced.

Secretary Vilsack emphasized the significance of affordable housing in building healthy and prosperous lives in rural America and across the nation.

“At USDA, we know that affordable housing is a key foundation to building healthy and prosperous lives in rural America, and across the nation,” United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said. “Today, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring survivors of gender-based violence continue to have the access they need to safe and affordable places they can call home, no matter their zip code.”
