Vulnerable Invertebrates Need Your Generosity

this Giving Tuesday!

Today is Giving Tuesday! It’s a special day reserved for acts of generosity, celebrated every year around the world.

As a donor-supported nonprofit, Xerces relies on donor generosity all year long. And so do countless vulnerable invertebrate species. We hope that you will choose to celebrate this Giving Tuesday with all of us at the Xerces Society. With your help, we can reduce threats to species survival, improve invertebrate habitat conditions, and preserve biodiversity. A better world for invertebrates is a better world for all of us.

All species on earth (including us) are part of an interdependent ecosystem. Invertebrates make up 96% of all animals on Earth, so their survival is essential to the overall balance of our shared ecosystem.

Species like the monarch butterfly, zigzag darner dragonfly, Morrison bumble bee, and western glacier stonefly are imperiled and need your help. Monarch populations have declined dramatically in the last several decades and Morrison bumble bee has declined in relative abundance by over 74% in recent years. Western glacier stoneflies are only known to live in one small area of glacial habitat that is slated to melt in the next decade, which puts this species at risk for extinction.

The Xerces Society is working hard to keep these beloved species and others from becoming extinct. Please stand with us and don’t let these vulnerable species become a memory.

How You Can Help Preserve Biodiversity

Restore Habitat

Invertebrates depend on many different types of habitat. As small creatures, a change in just one yard or park could make them a home.

Avoid Pesticides

Pesticides are one of the major reasons invertebrates are struggling. Avoid using insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides to reduce threats to already vulnerable insects, as well as the animals that eat them in the food web.

Become an Advocate

Share the importance of invertebrates and biodiversity with your network. Many folks don’t know how diverse invertebrates are, how much they are struggling, and why we need to protect them.

Donate

Here at the Xerces Society, we work year-round to protect invertebrates and their habitats. We restore native landscapes, research imperiled species, advocate on behalf of wildlife, and more. A tax-deductible donation this Giving Tuesday will support our essential work. Working together, we can make change.

Thank you for your participation!

Xerces is a donor supported non-profit organization. Your tax-deductible donation today will help grow and sustain our essential work.
