for the 2024 DeWind Awards

The Xerces Society offers annual awards to support students pursuing educational research in Lepidoptera conservation. This year, the awards will be $10,000 each, with two awards available. We’re investing in the future of our planet and our field by sponsoring the next generation of butterfly and moth conservationists. The submission deadline for 2024 DeWind Awards is Sunday, January 7, 2024. Learn More and Apply

Secrets of the Nevada Night (No, It’s Not Aliens)

It’s true, there are fireflies in Nevada! However, our knowledge of fireflies here, including where they are, is very limited; there are currently only a handful of verified observations. This past July, Xerces biologist Kevin Burls was lucky enough to survey for fireflies in some of his favorite parts of beautiful and wild eastern Nevada. Learn more

Growing the Supply of Hard-to-Find Milkweeds

Native milkweed species, particularly those that resprout earlier in the spring, are key host plants for western monarchs as they begin migrating inland after overwintering on or near the coast. Great Valley Seed company shares the process of growing rare but important milkweed species to supply them for the first time. Learn more
