One of the most exciting things about protecting tiny creatures that live in tiny places is that it means even small actions can make a big difference. Everyone is able to do something, and our staff at Xerces never get tired of hearing about your conservation victories.

For Pollinator Week, we’ve provided easy tips to make a new change in your home garden, at the plant nursery, or even by teaming up with your community. We hope you find your next inspiration to make our world safer for pollinators. And don’t forget to invite a friend!

Tips for Pollinator-Safe

Gardening at Home

Making your home pollinator-friendly is straightforward and rewarding. It starts with picking the right plants, using eco-friendly alternatives to control weeds and pests, and ends with taking a deep breath and admiring your handiwork! Xerces staff have compiled tips for each stage to get you to the finish line with a pollinator paradise of your very own. Learn more

Looking for Pollinator-Safe Plants? Here’s What to Ask Your Nursery

Pesticides used in the nursery can linger in plants, putting foraging pollinators and other insects at risk once in your garden. In fact, a recent study found that milkweeds purchased from retail nursery stores across the U.S. all contained pesticides—yes, every single one of the 235 milkweeds tested from 33 stores.

To really understand if nurseries are avoiding risky pesticides, it takes a conversation, and that can be intimidating. That’s why we’ve created a series of short videos to show you how! If you’d like to be part of the solution but don’t know how, we encourage you to start here. Learn more

These Bee-Safe Communities Are Welcoming Back Pollinators

Meet eight communities where individuals have banded together to make entire neighborhoods safe for pollinators, all affiliates of the Xerces Society’s Bee City USA and Bee Campus USA initiatives. These actions are rooted in ecologically-based integrated pest management (IPM), and many of them can be adopted in your community, too, large or small. Learn more
