The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is hosting a free webinar called “Defend the Flock: Healthy Flocks, Healthy Familieson Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 2:30-3:30PM EST. The webinar will share important information on how to keep your flocks and family safe from Salmonella and address the highly pathogenic avian influenza poultry health emergency.

For this webinar, USDA has brought together a team of experts including:

  • Dr. Julie Gauthier, DVM, Assistant Director for Poultry Health and Veterinary Medical Officer for the USDA APHIS. She also serves as a Veterinary Preventive Medicine Officer in the US Army Reserve and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
  • Dr. Kathy Benedict, Enteric Zoonoses Activity Lead (Acting) for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention specializing in multistate outbreaks of Salmonella and E. coli resulting from contact with animals and pet products. Dr. Benedict holds a B.A. in Animal Science from Clemson University and a DVM and Ph.D in Epidemiology from Colorado State University.
  • Greg Privett is the President of Privett Hatchery Inc., with more than 35 years in the poultry and hatchery industry. Mr. Privett also serves as Chairman of Bird Shippers of America and is the National Poultry Improvement Plan representative for New Mexico.
