Dear Nahid,

This February has been unseasonably warm across the Carolinas. Farmers are using these mild winter days to get ready for the growing season. Many farms are beginning to bustle with transplant production, cool season crop plantings, and potato bed prepping. So let’s “make hay while the sun shines” and make the most of the weather – sometimes it’s not so agreeable. In this month’s edition, we have an expert tip about Whole Farm Revenue Protection, a new program from USDA that allows farmers to mitigate risk of financial loss due to crop failure, as well as information and application deadlines for the FSA Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP), which provides financial assistance to farmers when crops fail as the result of a natural disaster.

For more helpful resources, CFSA has a full calendar of events in February and March! Don’t miss our Organic Commodities and Livestock Conference happening March 6 in Mount Olive, NC. There are also several Good Agricultural Practices workshops across the Carolinas coming up and two great High Tunnel workshops.

Cheers,
